As an effort to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, Perhutani has a new innovation as a form of climate change mitigation within the scope of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) through the Nature Based Solution (NBS) project. The NBS project is an environmental service engaged in the utilization, management and preservation of forest areas that have the potential to prevent climate change and have an impact on reducing carbon emissions and maintaining ecosystem sustainability in forest areas managed by the PERHUTANI Group.

In 2023, Perum Perhutani has launched 10 Strategic Projects, one of which is the Nature Based Solution project which is a BUMN collaboration program between Perum Perhutani and PT Pertamina Power Indonesia (PPI) as sub-holding in the New Renewable Energy (EBT) sector from PT Pertamina (Persero).

This collaboration is a business cooperation that takes advantage of the economic value of carbon gas through a carbon credit commercialization scheme and has reached the stage of finalizing the feasibility study on 2 concessions in the forest area owned by PT Inhutani I, the Semamu Unit and the Sambarata Unit. This collaboration is expected to become a pioneer in the development of decarbonization projects within the scope of SOEs
