Perum Perhutani Forest Management Unit (KPH) Surakarta is one of the management units in the Central Java Regional Division. Based on the results of the evaluation of the potential of forest resources in 2013, the area is 33,150.00 Ha, covering forest areas in Klaten Regency: 642.7 Ha, Sragen Regency: 4,525.69 Ha, Sukoharjo Regency: 374.45 Ha, Karanganyar Regency: 7,570.5 Ha, and Wonogiri Regency: 20,036.66 Ha.
The geographical location of KPH Surakarta ± 110 – 111 degrees east longitude and ± 7 – 8 degrees latitude, east: Mount Lawu, south: Pegunungan Seribu Cluster, west: Mount Merapi and Merbabu and north: Kendeng Mountains (limestone mountains)
Based on Decree No. 359/Menhut-II/2004 concerning the Functions of the KPH Surakarta forest area, it is considered a Production Forest covering an area of 13,584.60 Ha (40.48%) and a Protected Forest of 19,565.4 Ha (59.02%). Based on the topography, KPH Surakarta consists of flat land (2.17%), sloping (34.47%), wavy (32.09%), slightly steep (30.40%), and steep (0.87%). KPH Surakarta is located at an altitude of 50 to 3,265 m above sea level. Based on geology, the condition consists of Laterite soil and Andesite Tuff rocks. The climate in the KPH Surakarta area is type D, with the highest rainfall in January at 390 mm/month and the lowest in August at 2 mm/month.
The forest area of KPH Surakarta has seven Forest Sections (BH), with two company classes (KP) of teak and pine and soil types.
Management of forest areas in KPH Surakarta is divided into 7 Forest Management Units (BKPH) and 28 Forest Management Resorts (RPH). Each RPH has field implementers for plant activities, maintenance, thinning, security, extension/social assistants, environmental assistants, and logging.
The management of KPH Surakarta is carried out with 190 employees comprising 152 people (80%) Company Employees and 38 (20%) Executive Employees.
