The Forest Management Unit (KPH) Probolinggo is one of the forest resource management units (SDH) of the Perum Perhutani East Java Regional Division. It has a forest area of ​​84,263.60 Ha with a geographical location at 111°17’51” East Longitude and 111°42’43” West Longitude, 7°34’36” North Latitude and 7°58’12” South Latitude and is an area of Sampeyan Watershed (DAS).

Meanwhile, the division of work areas based on the government administration area of ​​KPH Probolinggo is divided into 3:

  1. Probolingo Regency has an area of ​​45,986.10 ha with a population of 337,634.
  2. Lumajang Regency has an area of ​​34,834.20 ha with a population of 229,353.
  3. Situbondo Regency has an area of ​​3,443.30 ha with a population of 17,951.

Based on its function, the forest area of ​​KPH Probolinggo consists of a Protected Forest of 34,212.00 Ha (41%), and a Production Forest consisting of:

  • Protected Area: 7,252.30 Ha (8.61 %)
  • Company class (KP) area: 18,055.90 Ha (21.90%)
  • Non-KP area: 16,651.00 Ha (19.76 %)
  • Non-Production Area: 8,092.40 Ha (9.60 %)

KPH Probolinggo Area boundaries:

  • North: Madura Strait
  • East: KPH Bondowoso and KPH Jember
  • South: Indian Ocean
  • West: KPH Pasuruan and KPH Malang

KPH Probolinggo consists of 5 (five) Company Classes (KP), namely KP Teak (29,457.70 Ha), KP Mahogany (5,545.10 Ha), KP Damar(resin) (25,696.20 Ha), KP Pine (20,121.30 Ha) and KP Kesambi (Schleichera oleosa) (3,443.30 Ha).

The forest area is divided into 9 (nine) Forest Sections (BH), namely: BH Sukapura (11,390.9 Ha), BH Probolinggo (5,131.3 Ha), BH Kraksaan (8,437.3 Ha), BH Bermi (21,026.6 Ha), BH Klakah (5,545.1 Ha), BH Senduro (8,697.7 Ha), BH Pasirian (11,861.0 Ha), BH Pronojiwo (8,730.4 Ha), and BH Banyukerto (3,443.3 Ha).

According to Schmidt – Fergusson, there are four climate types in the KPH Probolinggo area:

  •   Type E, with a value of Q = 100%, covers the area of ​​BKPH Taman, BKPH Kabuaran and BKPH Probolinggo
  •   Type D, with a value of Q = 60%, covers the area BKPH Kraksaan
  •   Type C, with a value of Q = 33.3%, covers the areas of BKPH Sukapura, BKPH Bermi, BKPH Klakah, and BKPH Pasirian
  •   Type B, with a value of Q = 14.3%, covers the area of ​​BKPH Pronojiwo and BKPH Senduro.

Based on a copy of the Geological Summary Map Scale 1: 100,000, Forestry Department in 1946, the geological formations in the KPH Probolinggo area are undifferentiated volcanic product formations, miocene sedimentary facies, alluvium Holocene, miocene limestone facies, old quaternary volcanic products, and young quaternary volcanic products.

Meanwhile, based on the Soil Review Map from the Soil Research Institute in 2006, the soil types found in the KPH Probolinggo area are laterite, latosol, margalite, limestone margalite, sandy laterite, regosol, regosol, solid rocks, and volcanic tuft.

The area of ​​KPH Probolinggo, based on its geographical location, is mainly in the Sampeyan and Bondoyudo watersheds area. The Sampeyan Watershed (DAS), which flows from south to north, penetrates the middle of ​​BH Probolinggo, BH Kraksaan, BH Bermi and BH Taman Kabuaran forest areas in Probolinggo and Situbondo Regencies.

The Bondoyudo Watershed (DAS), which flows from west to south-east, passes through the forest areas of BH Klakah, BH Pasirian, BH Senduro and BH Probojiwo in Lumajang Regency. (See: Peta KPH)
